Ronald McDonald Children's Fund: hospitality first
The challenge
The Ronald McDonald Children's Fund and the 15 Ronald McDonald Houses in the Netherlands are 16 separate foundations, each with its own management, volunteers and processes. Fundraising from both private and corporate relations has always been a key focus for them. Each House used its own relationship management software, ranging from post-its and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to packages such as Charibase from iFunds and Davilex.
Discussions with several House managers and with the Children's Fund revealed several challenges: spending less time searching and updating relationship files, maintaining easy contact with all types of relationships, sharing knowledge and information with the Children's Fund and other Houses, as well as taking action at the right time when sponsorship or donation opportunities arise.

The solution
After a thorough preliminary process, Ronald McDonald Children's Fund made the choice to implement Salesforce with TwoPurpose as implementation partner. All Houses as well as the Children's Fund itself have completely switched to the Salesforce platform. In doing so, they use the same Salesforce environment where data is consolidated but remains separate as the Houses are separate foundations.
A phased implementation was chosen, as each House had its own process and also worked with different systems. Important elements of the implementation included migrating all existing data from different sources, integrating with Outlook and applying a good data model to optimally manage the various relationships with contacts and organisations. A good basis was laid for automated customer journeys through e-mail marketing and, in addition, the processing of donations was automated.
"Salesforce enables the Ronald McDonald Children's Fund and the Ronald McDonald Houses to offer hospitality to our guests, sponsors, donors and volunteers from all our locations in the Netherlands."
- Miranda Noorlander, deputy director Children's Fund
The result
The Ronald McDonald Children's Fund now works together as a team with all the different homes; a big step has been taken with this!
User adoption is a key focus for many organisations going through such a transformation, including the Ronald McDonald Houses. TwoPurpose, together with the Children's Fund, gives them extra support by literally driving across the country to guide the managers and volunteers of the Houses, so that they too become comfortable and even enthusiastic about Salesforce and can make even more positive impact through optimal use of new technology.
"Together with TwoPurpose, we spent 1.5 years building to go from 17 'card boxes' to one integrated database. A big step forward in our relationship management."
- Miranda Noorlander, deputy director Children's Fund
