Cows for Sweida

The TwoPurpose Foundation deploys a business plan for greater social impact

..For example, by investing in a cow in Syrian Sweida.

Sweida? Never heard of it, tell me more!
Sweida is a town in southern Syria. The area around Sweida is largely home to Druze, a Middle Eastern religious community.
There is a Mediterranean climate in Sweida, with pleasant summers and relatively mild winters. Despite the fine climate, life in Sweida is often anything but easy.
For many people, there is too little income, not enough food and no prospect of a future.
Through an app from Ramzi, of The Forgotten Child Foundation, to Balt Leenman, of TwoPurpose, the idea was born:
''Many families in Sweida are selling their homes to head for Europe. The conditions of war, a poor economy, poverty, underemployment and lack of basic necessities like water and electricity mean that many people in Sweida have no option but to leave. I have advised many people not to go because the journey is so dangerous. The bottom line is that we need another solution.''
Through TwoPurpose's initiative, one cow can provide a chain reaction of hope. ''After all, you have to have something that can multiply. The cow's milk can be sold and income can be used to buy another second cow, and so on. One cow, besides the structural sale of the milk, provides about enough for two large families. In the process, we coach the owner of the cow so that together we ensure that a new cow can be bought next year,'' says Stefan Reiling, TwoPurpose employee.

''A cow can provide a chain reaction of hope.''

A fundraiser was held at TwoPurpose's New Year reception on Thursday 18 January so that this cow can be purchased for Sweida.

In this way, the Two Purpose Foundation is committed to a larger mission: to make the world a little more beautiful!
